This is a schematic of the standardized bearing position.
Shaft refers to power train and is set in number order on an asset level.
Bearing position number order is set on a Functional location level.

Is it possible to allow naming of the bearing position to include the Asset name ie Pump, Motor, Gearbox, even if its in short form like Pmp, Mtr or G/B. This will help the data collector easily identify the bearings and also reduce errors on bearings where data is not being collected.
Hi, is anyone reading our comments?
Yes we are :) Right now, that is not possible. Where exactly would you want this to be included, when you walk a route? Because in routes the measurement points are sorted in their assets, and the generic point name includes the bearing position number. Or what other case were you thinking of?
Carolina Poelk,
The configuration suggested is good but it also brings some challenges especially where the data collectors change often and are also not well trained. It would have been better to also be able to input the name of the asset (in short form ie MTR for motor). Some assets also have different bearing positions like screw compressors, (image below). Another problem arises when for some reason data collection is not supposed to be collected from a certain point because of some particular reason, like a hidden intermediate bearing.
Some routes are also not straight forward, like on a paper machine DE and NDE side are far apart, I would prefer a route to cover DE side separately and NDE side separately,
Yes i understand, paper machines are a particularly tricky case. Technically they are one huge Functional Location, even though they are gigantic. You should be able to create a route with only NDEs if you wanted to, since the suffix NDE/DE is included in the Measurement Location name, so you can select only the one or the other if you want to.
When it comes to intermediate bearings: we are looking into offering other definitions for bearing positions, not only NDE and DE. Like for example intermediate. But we are still investigating what would make sense to include.
What you are suggesting is okey if the data collector is the same person in a route, unfortunately where I am they are changed regularly, meaning the asset designated to have bearing number one might be reversed by the data collector unlike when I name the asset. Hope this makes sense.
I understand. Then maybe we need to clarify to users that the names of measurement location names include both shaft number and bearing positions: "02VV 1 DE" means "Bearing Position 02, Velocity, Vertical orientation, Shaft 1, Drive End", which maybe isn't clear to all always. Also, the asset name needs to be highlighted better i guess. We can't add the asset name to the name of the point names, since we are following conventions that need to work for all our customers.
